For their upcoming nutrition studies, the researchers needed single-hole and double-hole dry feeders to accommodate daily weighing.

“We were in need of single-hole and double-hole dry feeders that could accommodate daily weighing,” says Trey Faaborg, ISU’s farm manager.

Brent Jackson, Farmweld’s local sales representative, is an ISU alumnus. “When the opportunity surfaced to work with my alma mater, I was excited to help,” Jackson says. “ISU has a strong swine research division and like other universities, pushes that information to pork producers to make sure everything that’s learned benefits not only the pigs produced but also pork producers and their employees.”

Faaborg provided Farmweld with measurements and explained what he needed. Phone calls throughout the process ensured that ISU’s priorities would be met and the feeders would fit seamlessly into the remodel.

“Farmweld provided a solution for the ISU project by doing what we do best, listening and matching customer needs with our capabilities,” says Aaron Niebrugge, Farmweld sales manager.

The trials that ISU researchers are currently conducting address gut health, growth rate, average daily gain, feed waste, feed additives, mycotoxin binders and more. Each trial runs anywhere from two weeks to three months and can involve multiple researchers.

“We have multiple trials running on both types of feeders and everything is working great,” Faaborg says.
