FAST II™ (Farmweld Automatic Sorting
Technology) is operating across many productions
systems with scales being retrofitted
into multiple existing barns and designed
into new facilities. Many producers indicate
they have plans to convert all finishing sites
to automatic sorting within the next one, two
or three years.
It is no wonder. FAST II is not just a scale
that sorts pigs. It is a management tool that
helps operators know precisely when to
schedule loads for markets, when to change
diets or even when to call the veterinarian.
Now with eBarn™, a new protected, browserbased
service, pork system managers and
others they authorize can monitor their
system’s scale information from any computer
connected to the Internet. So tactical
animal management information, such as
growth rates, weight averages for heavy or
light pigs, or the number of animals ready for
market, is at a manager’s fingertips whether
he or she is in the office, at home or on vacation.
eBarn subscribers can access all weight
information and scale information for each
scale in each barn. Detailed reports, including
weight distribution histograms, are available
for each pig group. In addition to scale
data, the service provides water consumption
and environmental status reports. Close
monitoring could help predict optimum marketing
dates, helps adjust phase feeding programs
or even provides clues about health
status.
eBarn subscribers can opt to provide certain
individuals access to certain information.
For example, an individual grower may be
granted access to scale data for his or her
specific barns but not other barns in the
system. Or a mill operator may be granted
access to information needed for delivering
the right diets.
eBarn data is updated within 24 hours of
real time with an automated dial-up system.
All information is private. No one can access
records unless authorized. A third-party
entity serves as the site administrator.
