FAST™II is Farmweld’s
revolutionary new automatic sorting scale that is loaded
with smart features and capable of providing more barn management
information than any other scale on the market. The scale
is pig-friendly, operator-friendly, and designed by Farmweld
for long-lasting durability.
Features of the FAST II scale:
- Stainless steel guards over all moving
parts to enhance safety.
- Flip-up console compartment keeps dust
and debris away from display screen.
- Entrance gates designed to gently and
securely close behind pig. Gate width can be adjusted easily
with one hand.
- High-quality Rulon® bushings on
all wear points to increase wear-life.
- Easy-to-operate airflow controls, away
from moving parts.
- System operates at low air pressure
to prevent gate injuries and add longevity to scale.
- Scale body is 100% stainless steel with
solid sides to enhance throughput.
- Weigh bars are located at the top of
scale, away from pigs and manure.
- Perforated floor so there’s no
manure build-up which eases cleaning between groups.
- Anti-lay-down bar enhances throughput.
ESP™ System (Electronic Sense of
Position) (Patent pending) Scale detects proper positioning
for gate closing and weighing. Other scales rely on timing
devices, photo optics or manually controlled trigger weights
to dictate when gates are closed. With FAST II, the
scale knows exactly where the pig is so gates won’t
close prematurely and there’s no need to continually
adjust trigger weights.

FAST™ II’s large
(1/4 VGA) lighted LCD display screen is easy to operate
and read. The console can be mounted on scale or located
in a remote location as shown here. |

Features of HerdStar™ electronics:
- Menu-driven, easy-to-follow commands.
- Large (1/4 VGA) lighted LCD screen.
- Legible alpha-numeric characters in
full sentences.
- Histogram to show group weight distribution.
- Electronic record-keeper so data, such
as deads, move-ins, move-outs, can be recorded in the barn
and transferred electronically to the home office.
- HerdStar console is mounted to the scale
or located at a remote location such as an office or store
room.
- Water-tight, corrosion resistant console.
- Water-tight, quick-connection for all
cables.
- Large data-storage capacity.
- Protected electronics.
- Voltage/short circuit protected.
- Compatible with personal computers,
wireless communications, electronic identification and
the internet.
Four modes of operation:
Simple-Sort
- In the Simple-sort mode, the scale sorts
pigs crossing the scale into two groups based on a cut-off
or “sort weight” dictated by the operator.
This mode can be used to further split the barn into four
or more groups for tailored feeding or treatments.

FAST™ II One-Way Gates
are used by pigs to exit the scale and return to the
loafing area from food courts. |

Sort-to-Train
- Sorts pigs alternately to Heavy and
Light sides in the Sort-to-Train mode to teach pigs to
exit scale in both directions.
- Enhances throughput because pigs are
accustomed to going either direction during actual sorting.
- The scale is set up to “time out” to
enhance throughput if pigs spend too long on the scale
or move erratically. The scale directs pigs to the appropriate
side (Heavy or Light) after timeouts.
Sort-to-Feed
- In the Sort-to-Feed mode, which accommodates split-weight
feeding, the FAST II scale automatically estimates a sort weight to achieve
a percentage split of pigs crossing the scale. (For example, if 40 percent
of feed spaces are in one food court and 60 percent are in the other, the
operator would program a 40-60 split, and the scale will calculate the
sort weight to achieve this split.)
-
Each day the scale adjusts the sort weight automatically to maintain the
desired split
Sort-to-Sell
- In the Sort-to-Sell mode, the scale
sorts a specific number of pigs (sort limit) based on a target sort
weight.
-
The Sort Weight Adjustment feature enables the scale to adjust the sort weight
downward if the limit is not reached within a desired time.
-
Sort limit prevents overstocking in the sell pen or slaughter truck.
-
Scale will track the number of heavy pigs crossing the scale that exceeded
the sort limit. This provides the operator with an indication of how many
additional pigs are ready for market.
FAST II tracks group records:
- Company
- Location
- Barn
- Group ID
Trackable events:
- Beginning Inventory
- Move-ins
- Move-outs
- Death Loss
- Pigs sold
- Other
All these events contain the number of head, weight and date. Other details can be noted.

Daily Group Histogram
Graphical view of distribution of scale weight readings.
Continually updates itself as pigs are weighed. Data is stored so that user
can scroll through previous histograms.
Sort Data
Shows current sort weight, sort limit, current inventory
in sort pen, number of readings and heavies exceeding sort limit. Also shows
detailed information about heavy and light groups.
Group History
Shows how many weight readings have occurred, the average
weight, the minimum weight, maximum weight, standard deviation and average
daily gain of those readings.
Inventory
Shows starting headcount, move-ins, sold, move-outs, deads
and current inventory.
Scale
Shows current mode of operation, current weight on scale,
sort gate position and electronic ID.
Group Event Log
Shows time and date for events such as new group, pigs
sold, move-ins, move outs, dead, etc. |
