When we asked Roy Henry to comment for
this newsletter on how the Farmweld Flooring System is performing
at his Longford, KS, genetic multiplier operation, he told
us he would normally decline such a request. He's made it
a habit not to tie himself or his operation with certain products
or companies. But he agreed this time, saying he has really
liked what he's observed about Farmweld. "The customer is
number one," he says. "Farmweld's people are always interested
in what I want to accomplish and not just trying to pressure
me to buy."
Henry installed several thousand square
feet of Farmweld's orange plastic panels in 1997 in eight
new pull-plug, pit-ventilated nursery rooms. He says the panels
have performed very well at Henrys LTD, without signs of wear
and tear or damage from pigs.
Plastic hasn't always been the nursery flooring
of choice at Henry's operation. Wire and coated wire were
routinely used in nurseries in the past. But Henry decided
on Farmweld's plastic panels for the new facilities based
on several positive comments from other producers using the
flooring.
Selecting a high quality plastic was a priority.
"There are lots of different grades of plastic," warns Henry,
who wanted to avoid a low quality plastic that would become
brittle and break easily. The Farmweld Flooring System's high
quality plastic, along with the interlocking design and heavy-duty
beaming, creates a flooring that will go the distance, according
to Henry.
Farmweld's molded, polypropylene flooring
is not only durable. Henry says the panels clean up well.
"Given the proper effort, they can be made as clean as anything
we've ever seen," Henry says.
The flooring was also easy to install. "The
panels snapped together just like they were supposed to,"
recalls Henry.
He says he also thinks Farmweld's quarter
inch steel beaming contributes to the durability and strength
of the flooring.
"Every indication we've seen is that this
will be a long-life floor," says Henry.
