Benedikt Baer was under pressure when an older finishing complex near Gwinner, ND, “fell into his lap” to purchase during late summer 2008. As a contract producer, Benedikt receives batches of 16# (7.62 kg) weanlings every four or five weeks. He had a nursery full of pigs back home at Lake Park, MN, and he needed a new facility for their grow-finish phase.

Ezra Baer was concerned about per-pig feeder space when he approached Kevin Schnarre in the Farmweld booth at the 2007 Minnesota Pork Congress. Ezra was planning to build a new, 1,100-head nursery with an adjoining 2,300-head finishing unit. Ezra is a contract nursery-finish producer and receives weanling pigs every nine weeks.
